Planning a Red Van journey: four checks

  1. Destination and alighting point

Tell the driver your destination and confirm whether the service passes it, where to get off and where to board the return journey. A green minibus route number does not identify a Red Van service.

  2. Boarding point

Confirm the street, direction of travel and permitted boarding location. Board or alight only where the driver is allowed to stop.

  3. Fare and payment for this journey

Check the fare displayed on the vehicle and ask the driver to confirm the current fare, when to pay, accepted payment methods and change. An old webpage or photo does not establish today's fare.

  4. Departure and last service

Ask whether the service runs today, its expected departure, whether it waits for passengers and the last-service arrangement. Have another travel option for a late journey.

TD Road Users’ Code: red minibuses may pick up or set down where the driver is permitted to stop.

Where to check Red Van services

TD HKeMobility: red minibuses →

Use the official introduction, then confirm the actual journey with the operator shown on the vehicle or the driver. Search using your origin, destination and “Red Van” or “red minibus”, then check the source date and direction.

Fares and departures on operator websites, stop photos or advertisements need independent checking. Check the source and update date, and confirm again before travelling.

Are red minibuses covered by fare concessions?

TD’s concession scheme covers designated red minibus services. Some vehicles on a listed route may not participate. Check the official route list, the scheme logo on the vehicle and Octopus reader, and your eligibility.
